A trek to Chandrashila

Though I have done small treks this is my first himalayan trek, I dream about going for a himalayan trek from quite long time, a friend of mine told about this Chopta - Tunghnadh - Chandrashila trek, further after lot of research we made a plan.

We started our trip from Chennai and headed to delhi followed by haridwar. One can catch a bus from Haridwar bus journey will take up to 6hours to reach Ukhimut which costs around Rs 300/- per head, from ukhimut there will be share taxi's or we can book a direct taxi to chopta which costs up to Rs 1200/-.

At chopta we stayed in Hotel nandadevi they charged Rs 1000/- per night the temperature is very cold which went to -3degrees, though we have tried to manage its very different unless we have strong warm clothes, blankets. However, despite of all this everyone will manage as they would like to trek on himalayas.

On the next day we planned to start early in the morning to see the sunrise view of chandrashila. unfortunately we couldn't start as we were exhausted and started our trek at 8.30AM it took 4 hours to reach tungnadh for the distance of 3.5Kms the trail is covered full of ice we took lots of breaks in between due to sickness.

The trail to chandrashila from tunghnadh is 1.5 Kms fully covered with snow, it took another 90 minutes for us to reach though we were super tired physically but we are excited mentally to reach at last we were at summit in the afternoon with clear sky, sun was shinning and was already out of the sky & surrounding mountains.

On the other side an experience to beautiful view of Nandadevi, trishul peaks of Himalayas from chandrashila is almost about 13100ft which is absolutely magical. The 360 degree view of the summit is perhaps the best massive chain & unassailable strength. The mountains as well as the trail to reach chandrashila is full of snow/iced path. I think one must do treks and should experience being at heights, we were quite for some time till we could sink the moment this is gonna be the best trip with my favorite people.

Drive to Ghost Town.

Hello World, After along gap...yeah...I'm back with a nice article about a place which I have visited recently called Dhanush Kodi which is near to Rameswaram Island.

Let me tell you about the about Dhanush Kodi (Danush mean the "BOW" and kodi means "the end")....Hindu legend has it that at the request of Vibeeshana, Lord Rama broke the Sethu (the bridge) with one end of his bow and hence the name Danushkodi.

Its about 20Kms from Rameswaram, The drive to this place is really amazing....We are 4people hired a jeep which is open top(initially we were surprised after reaching the island we came to know the importance of open top jeep) we started our journey around 3PM after having a heavy lunch in Rameswaram.

It took 20mins to Reach the Navy base which the end for the Roadway....From there the rest of the travel was along the sea shore and hence, the breeze was very pleasant. Our driver changed the wheel from 2wheel to 4wheel to make the drive very comfort without any problems. You can see the point A is the place where navy base is located & the red line shows the journey towards Danush kodi.

The jeep drive to the interiors of this place are really thrilling....One can keep their fingers until they reaches to destiny. There were few instances where I thought the vehicle is going to topple-up. The vehicle cruised through damp lands, sea shores & trees...Along the way we saw some vans, tempos carrying tourists....the whole is journey is between the seashore where you can a Calm Indian ocean on the right side & the bay of Bengal on the left side with waves....While going far ward the Indian ocean looks very optimistic....Once we reach the end point we loved the beauty where both the Indian ocean & Bay of Bengal will meet it looks really awesome....

Ultimately, we reached what was once a thriving sea port, with regular trading with Sri Lanka, i.e. Danushkodi. The place looks absolutely beautiful, surrounded on two sides by the sea, the narrow strip of land ending at what used to be a port....huh....You can observe Rama sethu bridge( refers to the bridge built by the Vanara (ape men) army of Lord Rama in Hindu mythology, which he used to reach Lanka and rescue his wife Sita from the Rakshasa king, Ravana) unfortunately I never got a chance.

Lets go back to the history about Dhanush Kodi....This place was once an important entry point to India with all facilities like Railway station, and other government offices...But then, A cyclone storm with high velocity winds and high tidal waves hit this town on 22nd December 1964 caused heavy damage & all dwelling houses were blown to pieces in the storm and marooned. In addition hundreds people died in this cyclonic storm.

On that fateful night (December 22) at 23.55 hours while entering Danushkodi railway station, the train No.653, Pamban-Danushkodi Passenger, a daily regular service which left Pamban with 110 passengers and 5 railway staff, was only few yards before Danushkodi Railway station when it was hit by a massive tidal wave. The whole train was washed away killing all 115 on board. All together over 1800 people died in the cyclonic storm.  The high tidal waves moved almost 10 kilometres onto this island and ruined the entire town. Pamban bridge was also washed away by the high tidal waves in this disaster. Eyewitness accounts recollected of how the surging waters stopped just short of the main temple at Rameshwaram where hundreds of people had taken refuge from the fury of the storm. After this disaster, the Government of Madras declared the town as Ghost town.

I felt like I was in the end point of the India. The surroundings are really awesome with a breezy climate. One can really enjoy dhanush kodi if they visit in the early morning before sunset or in the evening after sunset....We returned back to the road in the same jeep....If you have a plan to Visit Rameswaram I would definitely recommend you to Visit Dhanushkodi. It is one of the best places in India or near Rameswaram. You'll really enjoy the fresh Air, Scenic Location & not the least the adventurous Ride between the oceans.

I'm gonna back with another beautiful article about by my trip to the Magical place "Rameswaram".

How floating Interest works???

Buying a home is one of the main goals for most of us and home loans have made a home really easy even for people just starting out their career were looking for home loan….. Do you have home loan?? That too with a floating rate of interest….so many people who have an existing loan with floating interest are in big confusion why ROI is increasing quarterly basis…. Here is the small illustration on floating Interest rates…how it works

Now a days banks are offering the interest rates with base rate….prior to base rate earlier banks used to source the loan with BPLR (Bench Mark Prime Lending Rate)…..According to RBI it is nothing but banks are free to fix BPLR for credit limit over Rs 2lacs with the approval of their respective boards. It has to be declared and made uniformly applicable at all the branches ….. Banks may authorize their assets-liability management committee (ALCO) to fix interest rates on deposits and advances, subject to their reporting to the board immediately there after. Banks should also declare the maximum spread over BPLR with approval of ALCO/Board. BPLR is computed with following consideration

  • · Cost of funds
  • · Operational expenses
  • · Minimum margin to cover regulatory requirements of provisioning, and capital charge profit margin.

The back ground: The main activity of banks is to gather funds from people in the form of deposits and lend this money to individuals.

Banks will get the money at a certain ROI and lends it at a slightly higher rate.

Why to banks need base/bench mark as a reference??

Each bank would have a different cost for the funds…in simple words, each bank would pay different ROI to it’s customers. For example SBI might pay 6% interest on 1year fixed deposit where as Indian bank might pay 9% for the same tenure.

Therefore, the rate at which the banks lend the money would also be different from different banks. But how the public know what the normal lending rate of bank is?? This is the reason reference rate is required… It is the rate that is derived based on the actual cost of funds to the bank. This is the rate based on which all loans of a bank are supposed to be priced.

Why RBI gave an end to BPLR??

The prime lending rate was introduced in 2003 to ensure that banks publish their lending rates based on their true cost of funds. All lending was expected to be at or above the BPLR. This was a fair expectation as you cant expect bank to lend belows its cost of funds. Banks stopped adjusting the BPLR when the interest rates went down- therefore, the BPLR lost its relevance as a rate reflection the cost of funds for banks.

The new “Base Rate System”:

The new system was introduced by RBI in response to complaints from home loan borrowers. The base rate system was kept in place with the objective of enhancing transparency in loan pricing and ensuring fair treatment to all borrowers.

How Base rate works??

If you borrow money to buy a house or car or any other appliance there is an interest rate that you have to pay to the lender. The base rate is the minimum rate that a bank will lend money. As we are aware previously banks used to source loans with BPLR.

Base rate will be calculated with the factors like the cost of deposits, administrative costs, a banks profitability in the previous financial year and a few other parameters with stipulated weights are considered while calculating lenders base rate.

Impact of Base rate: it’s expected that base rate system will increase transparency in credit pricing and address the shortcomings of the BPLR systems. Benchmark of most of the banks will decline to single digit. Again with base rate negative carry on CRR & SLR is expected that baserate will be directly impacted by the monetary measures initiated by the RBI. Small borrowers such as farmers who are close to BPLR rated would get credit of reasonable rates after the introduction of Base rate.

How to repay your loan home loan faster??

Part payment: if you have a excess funds with you try to make it as a part payment in your home loan so that your tenor will come down. Be careful while making the part payment some banks have a clause the foreclosure charges are also applicable for the part payment.

Increase EMI: If your financial situation has improved and you are making more money then increase your EMI which will reduce the term of your loan most lender will allow you to increase your payments with certain restrictions.

Lending money: Most of the people will lend money from other sources like personal loans, loan against gold to make part payment in home/mortgage loan this is the bad step where he has to pay interest to both the lenders.

Prompt Payment: Do pay your EMI on monthly basis without return/bounce…check with your bank if its returned try to repay at an earliest to avoid the return charge/penal interest.

Follow the communication: when ever there is repricing (ROI/EMI increase) every bank will intimate the same to their customers via letter, email, phone….If there is repricing in your loan based upon your outstanding, remaining tenor banks will fix whether to increase your EMI or Tenor. If your EMI got increased do check with your banker whether you have to give new instruction/PDC and make arrangements accordingly.

Hope this article will helps you in understanding the picture of floating interest and some of my tips to repay your loan will also helps you. Soon will post another article with best examples to get a clear picture on interest calculation, charging e.t.c….!!!

Our Trip to Gangtok.....

At first while we planned to go to kolkatta we have another alternative plan to visit one of the north east places in India. Later I got darjelling in my mind conveyed the same to my dad, sister. My dad enquired his friends, colleagues about the darjelling plan. Due to some riots in darjelling regarding the separate state for “Gorkhaland” my uncle advised us not to go to darjelling. After a lot of puzzles we got Sikkim in mind.

The next minute I googled for the info about Gangtok and placed to visit to in Gangtok, accommodation e.t.c my dad also check with his friends about the gangtok tour. At last we fixed our plan to Gangtok I desperately waited for the journey day.

We boarded Kanchankanya Exp at 5.30PM from sealdah station we reached New Jalpaiguri (NJP) at 8.30AM which we are supposed to reach 7AM…yeah train delayed for 1hr. We waited outside of NJP station around for 30mins to meet our travel operator. At last he came and arranged a cab for us to Gangtok.

Our cab driver named Mr.Bipin who is very helpful and told about Gangtok placed to hangout, culture and about his family ground, life e.t.c originally he is nepali migrated to India.

Journey gangtok was really exciting first passing between mahananda wildlife sanctuary…then majestic view of mountains and alongside….the teesta river and numerous ancient small bridges…as you start approaching closer to Gangtok the cloud cover becomes more dense… the major difference between Gangtok and other major hill stations is of the altitude. Gangtok with its height (550ft) is one of the highest hill stations in india.

At last we reached Gangtok around 12PM. The best part in gangtok was they will now allow the vehicles which are coming outside from Sikkim. As well as the capacity inside the vehicle was not more than 4persons if police caught more than 4people they will fine, though we got 2cabs to go to our hotel. We booked our rooms in Hotel Sikkim and got refreshed ourselves.

We went to one restaurant which is in M.G.Mart had a good food and we puzzled ourselves to where to go and then we spent some time near M.G.Mart….at last we decided to go to rope way which is very nearer from M.G.Mart….it was fully crowded once we reached rope way. At last we managed to get the tickets.

Rope way ride its one of the main tourist attraction in Gangtok, it will take the riders to the highest point of the city…covering a distance of about 1KM in only 7mins. It has three terminal stations. The ride provides a bird eye view of the city and the surrounding valley. The cable car accommodate only 24people at a time only negative point is there are no seats.

After completion of the ride we went Himalayan exhibition…we purchased some handmade articles and spent some time over there and reached gangtok market which is very crowded and later we went to another hotel in M.G.Mart and had our dinner and returned back to our hotel around 9PM and slept. The climate was 14’ degrees in the afternoon it was less then 10’degrees in the nights.

In the morning we woke up and went to Sikkim tourist office to get the information about Nathula point, Tsongo Lake…..we enquired with another tour operator as well she told that the permissions for that day were over though she tried a lot but no luck….:( so we decided to hang out the places around the gangtok and searched for taxi…no one was ready to take us as we are 5persons at last we got one cab who accepted for 5persons and charged bit extra.

We started our trip by visiting suicide point it was like edge of the hills the scenaric view is very good one who loves the hills stations (like me… :D) will definitely enjoy a lot….later we went to flower show which is really interest where you can find a different types, varieties of flowers the way they decorated the flowers is really interesting.

We went to enchy monastery it’s a 200yr old monastery when we were there a lot of cute young monks who are doing their work offering prayers to god… inside the temple there is a Gawtham budha statue which looks like budha is very serious we took snaps along with monks. Later we went to Ganesh tok, Hanuman tok those are the temples we had a darshan and went to Tashi view point…it’s very beautiful where visitors can get a perfect view of the opposite hills, beside mount Kanchenjunga. The snow range of Kanchenjunga could be seen on clear days from this view point.

Later we went to Rumtek monastery and jhakri water falls it was like a natural waterfalls and the water was very fresh which was coming up from mountains and then we went Bhanjakri waterfalls here my sister dressed a traditional nepali dress and we took the photographs it’s really awesome. This is the last place and we got down near our hotel in the evening.

In the evening we spent our time by hanging out near M.G.Mart and all we enjoyed a lot…. the climate of Gangtok was really awesome…when it rains its really awesome the people of gangtok will always carry umbrellas along with them whenever they come out....because they cannot predict when it will rain.

The next day in the early morning we started our journey to Siliguri in Sikkim RTC bus the journey was really good we reached Siliguri the climate was too hot and disgusting somehow we managed and we boarded into our train capital exp at 3PM and reached Barsoi where we have to catch another train to Kolkata.

Barsoi, I will never forget this place in my life it’s a station we never get anything to eat there are no lights inside the stations the entire village is without power I donno know bihari’s are managing I think this the real situation in bihar. At last we got our train to around 6.30PM to kolkatta reached Kolkata the very next day around 7AM in the morning.

I will never forget the moments of this trip in my life people who planned to visit gangtok don’t check with travel operator they will loot the money like anything plan yourself personally and make arrangements like accommodation, sightseeing, cab e.t.c. The best part is people in Gangtok are really helpful they will speak 3-4 languages( Hindi, English, Bengali, Nepali) every one can easily manage.

Trip to Niligiris...!!

It was the first time in my life to plan a journey wid maa friends outside AP when we have an idea to go outstation...we got kodaikanal in our mind...though we gathered a lot of information about Kodaikanal...while checking in the forums I found an article about toy train journey to ooty and den my mind has been diverted to ooty(especially the toy train journey)...Then I convinced my mates to ooty.

We have planned our itenery for 7days at ooty...we have planned our schedules, we reserved our tickets 2months before in advance...we all r dreaming about d day of journey...

Suddenly, one day while I am browsing through forums I found an article in "The Hindu" that the Toy Train to Niligiris has been canceled because of d heavy rains at Niligiris...I got very depressed that the nature has ruined my dream in d journey to Toy Train...Later on several discussion with ma friends we changed our schedule and planned to visit Kodai, Madurai.

After getting our schedules confirmed we searched for a good tour operator, cab companies & all...though, we discussed with so many people in d forums as well as through e-mails...at last we found one gud operator....we negotiated everything wid him....all my friends were accepted wid my negotiation.

At last, our journey day had came...we eagerly waited for dis day...60days of suspendence has ended up once we got into d train.... After 18hrs of journey we reached coimbatore successfully...our driver Mr.Vijayan is waiting for us @ outside of the coimbatore station...we went inside d can & started our journey to niligiris...on the way to niligiris we met our travel operator Mr.Anith & had a discussion about our itinery and all....

Finally, we started our journey to niligiris....really I cant forget d journey it was a deep hill station d journey in these hills feels you dat ur shifting into new life....the climate is too cold...the area is completely covered with fog we cant able to see d way...it took 3hrs roundly for us to reach our destination(ooty)...

At 5.30PM we checked into our cottage d climate is damn cold....where we got smoke from our mouth....after fresh up we went to ooty market we bought choclates to eat.....those r home made choclates the taste was too good.....den we returned back to our cottage and had a dinner at our cottage (huh....d best worst fud ever I had eaten) & slept....

Next day...after completion of our breakfast we started our sight seeing with Golfclub...this is the first time in maa life where I had seen d golf club.....only the registered members are supposed to play in that club....:-( later then we went to 6th mile shooting spot...hu hu...i wasn't able to control my emotions after seeing this shooting spot...then we guys moved to 9th mile I find a little bit difference in these but 6th mile spot is really awesome....after that we went farward to Pykara lake...on the way to these we had seen a dam named "Kamraj Sagar Dam"..unfortunately there is no entrance for this...:-(we just spent 5mins nearly at pykara lake. & then we went to pykara falls...these falls are truly natural...we find animals near to these falls....we spent alot of time over here had a little bit of fud here....

Later we returned back to ooty & went to ooty lake....arey baap...wat a lake yaar these r d words from maa friends....really wat a beautiful lake...we went for a boating in d lake & spent alot of time in the lake with boating....later we played a couple of games like dashing cars & all...den we had our fud(unfortunately it was our lunch....:-() then we went to botanical gardens....it was a beautiful location at ooty...where we can find a different types of flowers, plants....if ur a student of botany I'm sure this park will definitely help you for your projects and all...This park is located nearly in 55acres...though we haven't seen dis fully but it was a nice place...later we returned back to our cottage....

The next day was my b'day maa friends planned to arrange some party before the night....all of them bought a cake to make party they had an arrangement....unluckily they all slept because of busy schedule....:(

The next day we checked out our room & started our journey early we had a good breakfast at the same hotel....den we went to tea estates....where we had seen the tea museum, tea manufacturing process & all...later we bought some flavours of tea which are famous in niligiris...as well as we bought choclates tooo...& den we went to doddapetta which was the highest peak of niligiri hills....we had seen a different types of views from there.....really I assure every one needs to visit this place...

After completion of this visit we came down to niligiris & started our journey to kodaikanal via mettupaliam, Palani...cuming to palani this is d place where lord murugan temple is located....unfortunately we didn't had a darshan because of tired schedule....one thing I need to explain here our driver had another driver Mr.Suresh had joined in our troop...we started our journey to Kodai in the evening we reached our destination...

In kodai we stayed at Hotel Royal....which is a very budget hotel....on 31st we started our sight seeing with upper lake view in kodai...it was a place where every one need to visit...we can get the view of entire kodai lake from dis place....we had done a little bit of shoping here and den we went to moiers point...it was adjacent point of the hill...while we going farward it looks like a sea...while we went there it was a sky covered with fog...from there we can have a Shanti Valley view....then we went to Guna cave...it looks like a forest where we can view old caves & all...later we went farward to cookers walk...on the way to cookers walk we had seen a tree which is very old & it's called 500yrs old tree.....cuming to cookers walk...uff...I can't express the beauty of the view from cookers walk really it was a view where every one has to visit in their life....we skipped bryant park & went to kodai lake...here is the most beautiful part of kodai....uff I can't forget d boating....then we ended our sight seeing here & left to hotel....

On first day of 2010 we started our day & year with Treking...we heard about the name treking but we donno what treking exactly is...:P So, any way we started our day with "Vattakanal Falls" treking...these falls which are in a deep forest we need to go inside the forest it was a different experience while we follow the falls we are into deep forest in the place named lion cave...unfortunately we haven't been there....:-(

Nextly, this is the place where we can't forget in the entire trip...it was a treking to the Dolphin nose view, silent valley view...it took 45mins for us to reach Dolphin nose view...where we need to walk on the hills which doesn't have a road...d way is full of rocks, tree brances e.t.c....we are very tired to reach the place...but when we reached Dolphin nose we are not able to return back it was a good view from the end point of mountain really if u have been to kodai & doesn't done the treking here it was like missing sumthing....then we have been to silent valley view...huh it was the dead point view of the mountain wid rocks...huh a very dangerous & wortable place to visit...really it was the best place I have ever visited here..

Nextly, we went to Kurinji Andavar Temple had a good darshan over here & left to hotel....in the evening we have been to kodai lake for shopping we bought sweaters, choc's & all....we have been to cycle ride through out the lake it was a different experience in the evening on roads at Kodai cycling.....then we ended our day.

Next day, We checked out early in the morning from our room and started early to Madurai...Kodai-Madurai is a 120KMS distance it took 3hrs for us to reach Madurai....after reaching madurai we have been to a famous temple called "Madura Meenakshi Amman Temple".

There are a lot of entrances to this temple we have gone in one entrance...then we went inside the temple we had a darshan very fastly(though the temple is going to close very early) we haven't seen any thing inside d temple because of closing so in return we confused about our exit we went to different different exits at last we came out....then we went to railway station we kept our lagguage at cloak room.

In the evening time again we went to temple for a visit....this time we went inside through east entrance(it was a correct place to enter inside the temple)then we have been to 1000pillar palace which is located inside the temple...the pillars here in this temple are constructed with a structure of Gods....in the evening time we came out and had a good dinner....then left to station...

Our train at Madurai to our place is at 11.45PM we spent some more time in the station had a good time pass over there....hmm...finally for a conclusion a trip to Tamilnadu was a memorable moment for us every one in our mates nevva, evva forget the trip...though we missed some places in Niligiris because of rains...but we have seen some of the most beautiful place instead of them.

Maa Pasalapudi Kathalu-Vamsi

Hmm...Vamsi the name itself shows the identity of telugu films....the way he presents the artits on the screen, d way he shows the nativity of village people mind set, d way he express d kind of feeling which shows d realistic atmosphere on the screen....

few days back one of maa uncle told me about the book "Maa Pasalapudi Kathalu" which was written by director "Vamsi"...I had already seen these stories in Swati Telugu Weekly Magzine.....didn't read it.....I was excited to read d buk wen maa uncle told...So I went to one buk store & saw the buk which was too expensive....I didn't expect dat much price....At last I got the buk frm maa uncle who told me abt these stories....

Cuming to buk "Maa Pasalapudi Kathalu" it was a buk dat contains a lot of stories which shows the nativity of Godavari Villages as well as the innocence, intelligence, kind hearted, over intelligence of villagers....not only about the people there r some stories about celebrations in d villages as well as about some customs & traditions followed by d ppl at their villages....

Some names in thoses stories will got into maa mind daily....I was not able to judge which one is gud & which one is bad....out of 72almost all d stores hav different variations....damn sure it was a difficult task to you to judge which one is gud/bad....some stories are real some may created....but here espicially in dis buk d created stories r like very realistic & natural...

Cuming to art work in d buk...the work was done by "Bapu-Ramana" who are famous telugu directors...the way they presented d art work in d buk was really awesome...don hav words to express their intelligence....

I used to read alot of buks but dis one is very special to me...it was a great feeling when I'm reading the bok....the characters came into maa mind....d way vamsi created them naturally....there are some stories named "Jakkam Veeranna", "Chitamma Chepala Pulusu", "Kalidhindi Raju Gari Katha", "Rama Sesha Reddy Gari Indra Bhavanam", "Pichi Veera Raju", "Aarani Poyyi", "Munsabu gari Gurra Bandi", "Maa Chellayetha Mogudu", "Cinema Shooting Gollu Vacharu"....cant forget these stories in ma life.....

At the end of the there are some words written by some people...out of them I liked the words which were written by Baapu-Ramana...here are them...."Paluku naina Kaakapothini Pasalapudi Kathalalo.....kalamu naina kaakapothini aa kathlu kurisina sudhalaku....."

IF you have to time I suggest you to read this book...damn sure you will nevaa forget these stories in your life.....hope the journey of vamsi may go in a gud way of giving us a gud books like this....Waiting for "Diguva Godavari Kathalu" which was the next book of Vamsi....Hope this buk also gives us a gud stories like "Pasalapudi Kathalu"...:-)

My Role Model

Among the many persons whom Bangalore can proudly call its own dear ones, biotech entrepreneur and CEO of Biocon India Group, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is definitely one. Forward looking, driven, enterprising and definitely outspoken, Kiran is everything that one would look to in a woman of her stature. She is the India's richest woman.

She was educated at the Bishop Cotton Girls School and Mount Carmel College at Bangalore. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Bangalore University in 1973, she went to Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education (now University of Ballarat), Australia to study brewing and qualified as a master brewer in 1974. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw started her professional career as trainee brewer in Carlton & United Beverages in 1974. In 1978, she joined as a Trainee Manager with Biocon Biochemicals Limited in Ireland.

She started Biocon in 1978 collaborating with an Irish firm, floated 2 joint ventures, Biochemizyme and Biocon-Quest India Ltd. With her commitment to individual enterprise, she has held positions in industry councils, including Vice-President, Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka (AWAKE). Rightly, she was awarded Rotary Award for Best Model Employer, National Award for Best Small Industry, and most note worthily, the Padmashri in 1989 from the Government of India.

On her Interview with "The Hindu" she replied a answer to the following question

How tough was the business of breaking the invisible "glass ceiling"? Does it make you unhappy
when people insist on calling you a "woman entrepreneur" and evaluate you with a special emphasis on gender?
I have grown beyond that sensitivity of reacting to the term "woman entrepreneur". I now think it will be a matter of pride to be called so as there are now a number of flourishing female entrepreneurs in our country and let's face it, women in business get noticed much more than men!

You have described yourself as "outspoken, impatient, and undiplomatic". But can that work, considering that running a mammoth industry means a constant interaction with politicians and bureaucracy?
I always believe that honest and vocal people do make a positive impact even on politicians and bureaucrats. They may dislike you for some of the things you say but they also respect you for your honesty.

Two IIM-C Students Placed into Lehman Bro's for Londom Operations

Two IIM-C students of the Class of 2009, who had interned with Lehman Brothers in summer, got their pre-placement offers just 15-20 days ago. "We interned at the London office. Work was as usual... no one had any idea that trade was declining," said one of the interns.

Investment bankers including Merrill Lynch and the now-collapsed Lehman Brothers have been big recruiters on the IIM-C campus. For example, last year, 34% of a batch of 291 got jobs in the investment banking and financial services sector.

Even for summer placements, last year, firms such as Merrill Lynch hired 18 students, Morgan Stanley (11), JP Morgan Chase (13) and HSBC Global Investment Banking Division (6). "Both Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers are two big players as far as placements are concerned," admitted IIM-C chief administrative officer Dinesh Varma. "They are good paymasters too. Probably, this year we will miss them. There's bound to be some impact but nothing that we cannot overcome," he added.

For the interns, there has been no official communication yet, but they know they will have to put in their names for the permanent placement programme in March next year. "We put in 12-13 hours a day at the London office and worked on hot sectors like commodities and equity sales. Everyone there was very interested in India," the intern recalled.

Last year, salaries for international jobs crossed the Rs 1 crore mark and the highest domestic salary, including bonuses, was in the range of Rs 65-70 lakh per annum, offered by a leading international investment bank. "There were a total of 32 offers made to students by Slot Zero Investment banks," said Rahul Ajmani, placement coordinator at IIM-C. Some of the top notch firms which hired students from the batch of 2008 include Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Barclays Capital, Lehman Brothers, UBS, JP Morgan Chase and ING amongst others.

Our Trip to Papikondalu

I have been planning to go to this place from the past 3years...:)but it was postponed for soo many reasons..finally I went there in 2008..I went with my relatives...;)we are a team of 20mems..some are coming up from hyderabad, some from vijayawada & others from palakollu...finally we all met at Polavaram in the morning time..

Our boat named "Godavari Vihari" a steamed boat with a capacity of 200 people..the boat started from Polavaram roundly at 9.30am in the morning..So we joined the rest of the group traveling with us. They were bunch of family. This family was all talking and having fun through out the ride...We took a break at a temple place called "gandi pochamma talli" a tribal village...there were a few tribal villages along the way on banks of the river...these are small villages with population ranging from 20 to 200 families, some of them are well connected, some are just connected by river and with no electricity. Around 200 and more villages are going to be submerged forever once this proposed "polavaram"project finally comes into existence as told by our guide. Even this very famous temple will no longer exist...So we were traveling upstream to this beautiful river whose breadth and depth of flow was amazing:) As it is upstream ride we took 5 hours to reach our destination.

ur next stop was "Devi patnam" it was customary stop for security checking which was normal for all rides here. One of the interesting facts about this police station was an old building belonging to British raj time. Famous rebel leader of this area in that period, Alluri sitharamaraju, who attacked a police station near to this patnam was kept in confinement in devipatnam. Ok thanks to our travel Guide:)I was sitting outside watching all the beautiful Godavari and those interesting villages passing by wishing that how beautiful it would have been if the weather was "cool".:)So lunch arrives and another juggle to swim through the crowd and finished lunch..There came One turn in river which was so narrow and beautiful and our guide told us that it was known as a dangerous turn especially during flood time. Here water depth reaches 250 feet making it more dangerous during rainy season. Godavari seems to be very vibrant and calm from outside.

When once we reached our destination "papikondalu", a pair of mountains standing tall, close to each other . From distance it seems that there is a curve in between the mountains from where the river is disappearing as it has got no place to flow. once we reach the place then we realize how wide it is. I cant really go into whole story told by my guide. From here we reached a place where bamboo tents were built on sand dunes..atlast we reached a place called "perantapalli", a small village of hardly 20 tribal families. There was a matt established by Ramakrishna mission in its beautiful backdrop. one small lagoon famous for its medicinal values, a small siva temple were the main attractions. These villagers are craftsmen and they make beautiful handicrafts out of bamboo...When we reached the temple water puddle there was a bliss..I splash some water on my face and for first time I feel like really "freshed up" :). ..we had our darshan inside the temple.

It was high time by then as it was already 3 pm, and we had a long journey to be back homeLots of pics. we totally enjoyed ourselves with a conversation and nature was glowing to compensate all the hard ride. :) i really cant explain how beautiful it was, making our team think to just jump on one island and stay back:) But we stored those memories in a digi cam:) they can just capture moments, but a ride can only be stored in your heart, the whole experience of watching the sun set behind those mountains. cool air, and its NATURE after all. So we took leave from the scene only when it was dark. It was quick and happy ride back to starting point.
