Though I have done small treks this is my first himalayan trek, I dream about going for a himalayan trek from quite long time, a friend of mine told about this Chopta - Tunghnadh - Chandrashila trek, further after lot of research we made a plan.
We started our trip from Chennai and headed to delhi followed by haridwar. One can catch a bus from Haridwar bus journey will take up to 6hours to reach Ukhimut which costs around Rs 300/- per head, from ukhimut there will be share taxi's or we can book a direct taxi to chopta which costs up to Rs 1200/-.
At chopta we stayed in Hotel nandadevi they charged Rs 1000/- per night the temperature is very cold which went to -3degrees, though we have tried to manage its very different unless we have strong warm clothes, blankets. However, despite of all this everyone will manage as they would like to trek on himalayas.
On the next day we planned to start early in the morning to see the sunrise view of chandrashila. unfortunately we couldn't start as we were exhausted and started our trek at 8.30AM it took 4 hours to reach tungnadh for the distance of 3.5Kms the trail is covered full of ice we took lots of breaks in between due to sickness.
The trail to chandrashila from tunghnadh is 1.5 Kms fully covered with snow, it took another 90 minutes for us to reach though we were super tired physically but we are excited mentally to reach at last we were at summit in the afternoon with clear sky, sun was shinning and was already out of the sky & surrounding mountains.
On the other side an experience to beautiful view of Nandadevi, trishul peaks of Himalayas from chandrashila is almost about 13100ft which is absolutely magical. The 360 degree view of the summit is perhaps the best massive chain & unassailable strength. The mountains as well as the trail to reach chandrashila is full of snow/iced path. I think one must do treks and should experience being at heights, we were quite for some time till we could sink the moment this is gonna be the best trip with my favorite people.
